Women in U.S. war plants
During WWII, as men left for military service and the need for labor increased, women were encouraged to fill the demand. Women Ordnace Workers (WOWs) were employed by ordnace war plants across the United States to work on the assembly lines which produced military weapons and ammunition. The working conditions at these plants were often harsh and hazardous.
