Battle of Britain, Winston Churchill & "The Few"
On August 20, 1940 Winston Churchil used the line on this poster in a famous speech given as England was preparing for the German invasion of Great Britain.
The Battle of Britain was fought mainly by the Air Force's Fighter Command. "The Few" is a reference to the nearly 3,000 young men who were pilots and other aircrew who took part in the Battle of Britain.
Nazi-Germany was unable to destroy Britain's air defense during the 3 1/2 month Battle of Britain, and this was considered a major setback for them.
