US Army Air Forces
The U.S. Army Air Forces was formed in June 1941, prior to the United States' entry into WW II. It was a branch of the Army and included the U.S. Army Air Corps as one of its three components. The old name of Army Air Corps persisted in popular use for some time, as well as the common use of the singular "Air Force". The Army Air Forces was the precursor of the United States Air Force which was created in 1947.
